Upon This Dying Day

by Dill   Nov 3, 2019

Come we upon this dying day
For a friend has gone away.
We see with dread and awful looks
As he leaves these earthly hooks.

A duty’s done; a race is run:
Ah bliss to breath again.
And so we cheer, forgo our fears:
A comrade’s passed that plain,
And takes his place among his peers.

Ah me! and shall we meet again:
That face I once so loved?
Perhaps some bright and blissful day
He’ll cross and come our way.

Then come we unto the dying day,
Look up and go away:
Ah, hopeful bliss to breath again
And cross the common plain;
Without the angst of fears,
And take our place among our peers.

And so a duty’s done; a race is won,
And life is just begun.

Love the overall theme of this, a reflective piece on life, those that go before us and the knowledge that we too are part of that same cycle. Great insight and a great rhythm to this.
