A sigh breathed by two

by Larry Chamberlin   Nov 13, 2019

un sospiro respirato da due

Afterwards, when our love was young,
on shared pillow facing each other,
our breaths were taken alternately:
your exhale was my inhalation
your molecules streamed to my blood
turning it from tired blue to passion-red.

Lately we don’t even face each other;
the pure essence of togetherness
drifts out, caught by the ceiling fan,
escapes into the lonesome stratosphere.

Did I just hear a sigh?
