Oof, I know... |

I do not think the General was a good man, but the problem is, I don't think Trump is either. No matter how I try to justify his killing, something feels off about it. I cannot believe that in this instance - in this terribly fragile time - it was the right move. Also, it may be a stupidly cynical thing for me to even contemplate, but there is an election to win after all, and surely this is the kind of reckless move that would appeal to so many of Trump's supporters. However, I am aware that there were other entirely 'innocent' reasons behind the assassination too... |
Thanks, Ben. It's tough because I don't think anyone here is denying the fact that the General was evil and did evil things, but it's the way that I believe we provoke and chose to escalate... that is what is bringing that uneasiness. I'm reading figures that in the past 15 years or so, there has been over 2 million Iraqi deaths. And we're endangering over three thousand of our own troops now. Which again, I don't feel like American lives should be important than others. It's just the reality of lives being expendable, no matter who you are, this is involvement for questionable reasons. (And yep, I've seen the same concern and I wouldn't put it past him to be reckless and do this for ulterior motives like the election). |

I wish I could praise your response to my comment, MA. If the world was full of more minds like yours... |
