The neighbor tree

The neighbor tree

An olive tree once gazed upon
An almond tree in bloom
The winter had scarcely gone
So that spring shall resume

What beauty, what might
Had led to your flowers?
I admire your clear white
Beneath cold sun showers

Thus the dark green olive tree
Thought in its trunk
While a busy vernal bee
Into a bloom had sunk

As winter came to visit
That tame field again
Cold and wind had hit it
With rhyming drops of rain

The almond was a naked wood
It looked around and saw
The olive unchanged it stood
And thought of it with awe

What beauty, what might
Had fed your dark green?
Oh if I can get your sight
And in leaves can be seen
