The Wager

by CJ Johnson   Feb 1, 2020

A parlay bet laid with a click on my phone
Curled up on the couch to watch it alone
My bank account needs the virtual cash
To pay some of bills I’ve let just amass
Black Velvet on ice, TV turned low
Tip off begins, my blood starts to flow
And even with the quick of my heart
I know in a few hours my money will depart
I should just stop, I have a family in need
But the urge of the gamble is an adrenalin speed
This apartment is cold, my house use to be nice
The ring on my finger has disappeared twice
My voicemail is full, I’m sure nothing major
I’ll handle it tomorrow, now back to my wager
