Daddy’s Little Girl

They were both young
when they had their baby girl.
She was their everything
their entire world.

Her dad became a person
one he didn't trust.
Trouble followed him everywhere
to get out was a must.

He left his daughter there
when he turned twenty one.
He had an addiction
one that had to be undone.

He told her he would be back
a promise he planned to keep.
He needed to get himself clean
so he made that leap.

He called his daughter every week
asked about her days.
Told her he would be back soon
he dreamt about that day.

He missed the way her face lit up
when she would laugh and smile.
He missed her big brown eyes
he hadn't seen them for awhile.

He missed her hugs and kisses
the way she said "I wuv you".
He couldn't wait to get back
he only had a month or two.

Little did he know
that his wife lost control.
She became addicted to drugs
from there it all took its toll.

Everything came crashing down
on one cold winter day.
His daughter had a headache
she only wanted it to go away.

Her mom wouldn't listen
so she got a pill for herself.
Instead she ingested a deadly drug
they tried to save her, nothing helped.

He didn't just lose his daughter
he lost his entire world.
He lost the person that completed him
he lost his little girl.
