Fragile Foundations

I've built so high to where I am,
it took so long to make;
yet here, as I look from the top,
I see it isn't safe.

So should I keep on building
with the hope it won't collapse,
or do I climb back down below
and start this all from scratch?

    This poem raises the question. "Should I stay in my perceived precarious position at the top or do I climb back down to my comfort zone" For me, it reads as if it's been a tough climb to get to where the writer is now in their life and that something has happened to make them feel that they are in a precarious position. They look back down at what has gone before and it makes them feel that they don't really belong at the top and that it's just a matter of time before all that they have built collapses. So the question is asked is it better to carry on perpetuating all of the hard work that has gone on before and risk ultimate failure or to give up on all their hard work and climb back down to their comfort zone wondering what would have happened if they had stayed. This raises a more important question that should be asked. For if a person works long and hard to achieve something this is definitely something that is important to them. So is the threat based in fact or is it an internal fear?
    If you stand on the flat roof of a towering building it is a sturdy structure and you have no fear of walking around on it. It's only when you stand and look over the edge that it feels precarious. It's the fear of what might happen that can paralyze and prevent us from moving forward.

    So maybe its time to step back from the edge and be confident that the hard work that was put into building such a high building has forged a strong enough structure to support you at the top

    Such a lot can be derived from these two seemingly simple stanzas. Had to nominate it. Milly x
