Left Behind.

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 6, 2020

I carry this sadness with me,
I carry it in my heart.
If I had the will to forgive,
where would I even start?

You confiscate my light
on the bleakest of days,
manipulating the shadows
til I'm caught in anger's rays.

I'm told to give more chances
but nobody lets my voice be heard;
time can't solve the pain you caused,
my mind's still twisted, half slurred.

Once I move from sorrow's halls,
I can build a stainless foundation.
Your memory won't always follow,
I will finally be my own salvation.

I love love love love how there’s a full stop in the title. It is really like it’s really left in the past. What a great start to a powerful poem!!!!

    This right here:

    You confiscate my light
    on the bleakest of days,
    manipulating the shadows
til I'm caught in anger's rays.

I always find it amazing how well juxtaposing light and anger/sadness works. They're almost polar opposites, but damn they work well together, just like you've done here. The total polar opposite is of course light and dark, but it doesn't give the same feeling as this, maybe because it gets used more.

I agree with the 2 closing lines:

    Your memory won't always follow,
I will finally be my own salvation.

Sometimes, salvation in the worldly sense can be found through others, especially those who are close, like family. But most times, it's something you need to have a strong conviction to work towards. More often than not, salvation isn't easy and I believe it's that way for a reason. What would we learn if everything was easy? We'd either become too reliant on others, or give up on anything even slightly outside our comfort zone. Life throws a shit hand at everyone at some point in their lives, of course some get a bigger pile of it than others, but those people have a chance that the rest don't to learn more and ascend further through experience.

Apologies for the essay, I don't normally comment to this extent, but it's just my own opinion from my own experiences. Awesome stuff dudette. Thanks for sharing and keep 'em coming :)
