Panic Buying

by Milly Hayward   Mar 20, 2020

Stuck in isolation
for this virus thing is rife
Towns just desolation
as the shoppers shop in strife

Frenzied people hoarding
thinking only of themselves
Simply unrewarding
others finding empty shelves

Think of those in distress
and share freely of your haul
This balance please redress
pull together one and all

Let's join forces now guys
support those most in need
Be compassionate and wise
and stop this needless greed

    Hello Milly,

reading this poem, written back a the very start of this, brings it all back. It's amazing how the human 'caveman' mentality returns when faced with an apocalyptic disaster. For a few weeks, we would have pushed a granny out of the way, just to snatch that last pack of bog rolls. Your poem was the sense that cut through this chaos, helping those fearful folk know that if we are sensible we can all get through this. This sentiment is still one that we need to listen to, for only by helping one another will we all come through the other side.
