Who’s the real virus?

by Courtney Hough   Mar 30, 2020

* I am in no way downplaying those who have died. Just showing the good I’ve seen from quarantine.*

These streets once filled,
And the shops had light.
But they’re all empty,
And it’s not even night.
Is this really the virus?
The world can finally breathe.
So was it really it?
Or by products of you and me?
We are eating together,
We are investing time.
It’s not a monster at all,
It’s putting us back in line.
We’ve forgotten to live,
And destroyed so much.
We needed this,
We’ve been so out of touch.
See the dolphins returning,
The bulls running free.
This is what harmony is,
We just needed to see.
And when it’s finished.
Mother nature’s lesson to us,
Enjoy the time,
And live like we must.

This is nominated because I couldn't help but agree with the entirety of it. An excellent and poignant piece.

Sixth line: "breath" should be "breathe".

Honestly, I don't see this as downplaying at all, if anything, it's more thought-provoking and shows your humanity. Your compassion for the world, for what we all forget about and take advantage of. We HAVE been out of touch, amen to that. I had to read twice when there was an article about the canals in Venice with the clearest water. That's a huge eye opener. It's like after this, we should realize how sacred Mother Earth is, and shape up before we destroy even more.

    Thanks for sharing this!
