The Week of Long-distance Calls

by Tanya Southey   Mar 30, 2020

It was the week of the phone
in my hand, holding,
while it rang all over the world

Voices from far,
checking on family and friends
on continents connected by sea,
and air and sky
no longer seen as separate places

Even a long-distance call
to the person next door

The world being called
from a place far away,
to go into ourselves,
and make sure we stay
in the hearts of our homes
and reassess why we’re here

And I found in a moment
of meditation
as I stood at my window
that if I looked up
I could see infinity.
