Your Ghost

by Star   Apr 15, 2020

The coffee hymn in the morning
was our best harmony, we always
reached the caramel nut notes
of your hand dripped coffee.

We never got lost in music,
my lyrics never matched your
moves. We played time like a
piano; never in the right tune
yet we had so much fun.

The day blended with the night
and a scent of uncertainty,
was our favorite taste of life.

If I knew our time together
would mean nothing, my steps
would've been less calculated
then our dance could've
lasted longer.

Just coming back to leave a somewhat decent comment; I really like your word choice in this, there's some sway to it, it's sweet. I love the play between the senses, sight, smell and taste in the second last stanza; I think it did really well to set this poem up to be more 'imaginative' which is driven home by the last stanza, where you write 'if i knew our time together/would mean nothing' which isn't written in a depressing way, but lends credence to the theory that this person you're spending time with isn't real (which makes sense given the title, but it might also be flashbacks to a person who was around). Kind of rambling, so I'll stop here. :)

    Hello Star,

The sweet notes of love, a dance remembered to leaving one to tango. The twining of word, dance and music in an exceptional passage of poetry. Very well done, Star. I have very much enjoyed reading this.

    Stay safe.

    Kind regards, Tony.
