napowrimo 14- Survivor

by Sunshine   Apr 16, 2020

People seldom return
Seasons never cease to leave
but they often come back
and they always find me unchanged.
My roots just go deeper
and I rise silently into the sky.
My soul is in the air
my life is in the sun.
My attachment to home
grows bigger with time.
Although I don't need light
arid lands don't kill me
and I'm at ease with thirst.
but I know
I always knew
I belong to trees.

This is genuinely phenomenal. There are so many layers to the poem itself that i want to unwrap :). I instantly connected to the title because i am a survivor as well though before i read the poem it could have meant a many number of things but i think I'm on the same wavelength as yourself and if so your metaphors are perfection.

The first line hit me hard, because throughout my whole life i observed this to me true as well. When people leave our lives whether they are true friends or people we grew apart from they never come back at all.

When you suffer from depression (which i think is the emotion you go through here) you are often unchanged no matter how many seasons go by. Your roots grow deeper because you want stability in your life and the place you live while not ideal is comfrt.

You do a great job at masking the meaning until the end and it hits you and the readers who understand. You are more comfortable in nature than you are surrounded by people. Love love this poem.

I love this piece, it screams larger than life; you're accepting of yourself, able to weather any storms. It's hopeful. I really like this piece from you :)

I love ALL of your latest... but this, well it just struck a special chord with me. Glad to see Hellon nominated it.

Something feels so "infinite" about this piece. Beyond ourselves. The disappointment in others, in facing their abandonment, causing our roots to grow more, extend further and almost be invincible, at ease with all that seeks to destroy us. There's power in each line and it's so incredibly thought-provoking!
