napowrimo 18 - Escape

by Sunshine   Apr 20, 2020

You brought in peace
by leaving
and let me tell you,
your absence is subtle
unlike your heavy presence.
I'm not sorry if this hurts,
I know it won't.
Even this wood cracks
more than your heart would
and these walls expand
more than your arms ever did.
I recall, you said I'll go to hell,
but hell was at your side
all else turned out heavenly.
Let me tell you,
the trail behind you lit
as you rushed into darkness.
I can't say I'm free today
your face still hunts me
and there's a lot of you
in my dullest poetry,
broken words
rushed lines
scarcity of love and joy

but I know I fled.

This is a well written and powerful message. I connect to it well because i have been through it, we never really know how much poison we have endured until we leave a situation or it leaves us in this case.

It is an unsettling peace when all is quiet around us. No more hurt on the outside but inside rages a war. Yes they left but the damage they caused is still there just not a physical body. It lingers within us. Then flashbacks happen.

This person doesn't know how much hurt they have caused because they can't really feel anything or very little at least. You've built walls around yourself and each time they didn't feel what you felt they grew. This person was not a romantic person.

This person was your hell on earth. And because of this everything else was like heaven. They burnt a bridge in front of you when they left.

They are everywhere yet mostly in your mind and poetry. It helps to write.

    You escaped.

'your face still hunts me', hunts should be haunts, I think.

Rania, I really don't know what to say. This is beautiful, heartbreaking, hopeful, just so much emotions going on. Really hope to see it on the front page!

no I did not mean haunt, (ghost wise) but as an act of chasing.

AND thank you <3 it means a lot to come from you.
