A fond illusion.

by Poet on the Piano   Apr 26, 2020

I fall asleep next to you,
a shadow from another
century,
visiting for the length
of one lunar cycle.

You enter my consciousness
with dexterity,
a gentle zephyr leading me
forward into a waltz.

You speak in languages I've
tried to learn, but could never
quite master.
Your words - lilacs humming
on a lonely windowsill,
waiting for an admirer.

Sing, if you're able,
grant a serenity this world
could never offer.

Heal the distressed
memories from my veins;
write me into a new
land, where we will both
belong.
