I suppose when we have loved so greatly and shared so much, the loss of those things is incredibly hard to bear. Everything that makes up our day to day lives, whether it be sharing a film or listening to powerful pieces of music together, suddenly become hurdles to get over rather than things to enjoy and look forward to. There's always a balance to be paid, it seems. And it's perfect;y natural to wonder if those that are gone still wonder - obsess even - over us the same way as we do over them. Superficially, I suppose it would help to know they are in the same boat, but ultimately, I'm not sure it makes any difference at all.

*edit - rereading, I do like the way you draw comparisons here. You, the thoughtful films and the long novels and them with their 'typical' endings and short stories. Not sure if there might be an accusatory/negative anger directed at them here, which often comes with hurt too.
