proteus

the sea spells y/our name in
the gentle whirlpools
forming in the tides.
divided by seafoam,
the lighthouse calls on your
heart to light the way,
you know -
the beating conch shell
that always sounded like
home. sometimes you’d
speak in prose, most nights
you spoke in poetry; i was
hopeless to your trawling
of the seas. your tongue –
an accurate trident, you’d
spear to hurt, and the hurt,
an omniscient god
acquainting herself with her
kingdom, you’d fish with
bait:

“once, i dreamt of you –
actually, i don’t remember
the dream but it ended with
you, and a forever-after”

“…you smell of sunshine,
your eyes - hickory,
burning late into the night”

and i-
i impale myself
on the hook
willingly in a bid
to pull you into
the water,

but you’re a strong,
merciful god, cutting
me loose before
swirling back
into the seas.

The first line is so good, it alone left many beautiful and gentle images in my mind.
And the comparison of their heart to a beating conch shell, I love that so much.
And towards the end, even after knowing the danger and the end result, diving into it, impaling yourself to the hook willingly; I don't know if this is about love or anything else, but it's beautiful!

I should have been the one nominating this. Rania keeps beating me to it!!
Actually your wording in this is interesting.
    This is beautiful!

I cant put my thoughts on this in a proper comment right now, maybe I should do that some other time :)

I am leaving the same comment for both poems, you and Mark's, what did the both of you just write? I hope the randomness of the weekly takes both poems to the front.

You both have different styles yet each had this magical atmosphere and honestly magical wording. I'm a 3rd to be left inspired.
