Been struggling to find words to comment on this properly! Your word choice is fantastic. The depth of "chimaera", of succumbing to the illusion, losing a sense of reality and identity even. The last two lines were powerful, as usually, we may think of dreams as a relief, an escape. Yet here, it means shackles. It means being trapped and unable to be humans perhaps. The "snatch a soul" was a fascinating line, and it made me think of a monster in the first stanza, yet whether she is human or not, she is desperate to feel again and to fly and know the changing of seasons and cycles of life. |

Such beautiful language used here! Every single word fits snugly between the prior and the following. At first, I thought it may be a little too wordy but it's simply gorgeous. I get a sense of torment here. The Chimera here could be a metaphor, a play on words. If something is a chimera, it is not possible to be achieved...the sense of entrapment here would suggest that this beast...or the person they represent is truly shackled. I love it! |
