Mimicking Nothingness

by BOB GALLO   Jun 12, 2020

Thus, whispered an hourglass in my ears:
No rock would ever survive the onslaught of time!
Everything would
turn to the sand,
nothing hard could forever withstand!

Everything must break and split to the dust.
Everything must curtail,
constantly cleave, be sanded and sieved
to flow
to mimic the water
to mimic the wind
to mimic nothingness.

...yes all ends in nothingness and eventually we all become dust. Good read!

I loved this - excellent word choice. I'm not a huge fan of exclamation points in poetry, as they come across a little cheesy. It doesn't distract from the beauty of this poem, though.
