Hands that knocked at your gate
were not the same hands after.

I walked into your empire
like a dull foreigner,
but past your door
I was enlightened.

Same face
same lips and tongue
but new skin and new language.

I met you as a raw human
I left as a soulful poet.

I really like the fact that you start at the gate (first obstacle) and then the door (another) before you know it's too late... and, again you are trapped. That's how I interpreted this anyway. What irked me slightly was this in two lines "&" it may be a modern way of writing but I thought it was slightly lazy (sorry)

Didn't take anything away from the poems itself BTW, this is just my personal opinion.
