I can't believe I slept in My alarm I forgot to set Staying up so late last night But now I just regret I have an important meeting At work which starts at nine Now I'm running so late And won't meet the deadline I jump into the shower To wake I leave it cold And revise my notes from last night Hoping they will all unfold As I'm getting dressed My mindset that is bound My wife no longer sleeping As I'm making all this sound She is standing in the kitchen With cooked breakfast on a plate I take a sip of coffee But for the rest I just can't wait As I pack my briefcase And feeling so annoyed She's already at the front door But her I just avoid Straight into my car Still glimpse her at the door I can see her waving And again I just ignore While driving down the road And silently start to curse I forgot my phone and lunch This day can't get any worse The day was so hectic Thank goodness I pulled through Realising I was rude But will make it up to you I turn into our street There's a police car at the front My mind just goes all blank As the officer I confront I ask her what is wrong Her emotions she can't hide She tries to tell me calmly It's best if we go inside Anxious and confused For the words she's going to say And it just hits me when I hear I'm so sorry, but your wife has passed away She pauses for a moment The silence is so loud A driver ran a red light And into her he plowed I am too stunned and silent I can't accept that it's true And all I keep thinking is I didn't say goodbye to you She tries her best to calm me As I'm feeling so alone And asks me if there's someone close That maybe I should phone I turn on my mobile Which I had left behind And I can't stop my tears With the message from her, I find Sweetie you forgot your lunch But don't worry I'll drop it by And I'll send you an emoji kiss As you forgot to say goodbye...
