at closing.

i remember that day vividly;
he looked at the price tag of
the ring and wrote down his
phone number on the napkin,
begging me to reserve it
for just three more days
so he can gather up enough
money, and i obliged. at
closing, the evening news
showed a mangled car with
the caption "couple dead
in a horrific car accident",
and i never saw him since.

    I love this, but it makes me feel so sad. Like MA said, there are still strangers, people I've crossed paths with that I think about every now and then and wonder where they are in life. Thanks for posting!

    Glad you posted this one. It's beyond gut-wrenching. And it's amazing how we all can remember certain days vividly, even if the moment themselves are small and don't last long. There are still strangers I remember that impacted me in ways I didn't fully realize at the time, and sometimes, I'll wonder where they are, or how they are, or if they're still on this earth. Simply knowing this man was set on this ring, pleading with you, and so determined to come back, then his fate and realizing the couple in the crash may have been them. Incredible story and emotion you created from these prompts <3
