Let's Call it a Night

by ddavidd   Jul 16, 2020

We've indisputably
put up a fight
now darling
let's call it a night.

Lanterns are dimming
silence is turning aloud
and roads are washed
with the wet wisp of smudging clouds
white,
in the debris
of dwindling crowds
benighting the light,
now my darling
let's call it a night.

There is no bite
out of the apple of this might
or slightest taint
upon
the canvas of virgin white,
now
before losing the fight
to the lure of colours and blots
my darling
let's call it a night.

The moon is wedging the heights
it seems as a window
amidst haven and night.
Stars are awaiting us bright
with smiles and twinkles
haversacks of delights,
now darling
let's call it a night.

The candles are dying
and the darkness is incurable
in these hearts plundered by fright,
in this crowd,
this
tribes of surrender to survivance
though so dead inside in despite.

Alright my darling
let's
call it
a night.

I liked the repetition at the end of each stanza. Things can be happening around us good or bad but the writer brings a closure and softens the mood calling for it to end, let go...nicely penned :)
