The Pen, The Parchment, and the Blood of men

by Lemon Squeezy   Jul 26, 2020

The pen his sword and the parchment his battlefield,
His goal to press the enemy to fully yield,
His mind a weapon of mass destruction.
To his mighty wisdom, discernment, and instruction.

His pen with words tattoos the parchment skin,
Each and every phrase flows out from deep within.
He ponders deep philosophy and has rich thought,
Each pen stroke another stride towards victory sought.

He crafts with pen on parchment fresh and clean,
A beautiful ballad unlike any ever seen.
He pens the words that freedom fiercely follows
Every sentence another strike against his foes.

He fights with pen in hand and parchment plea,
And not with canons on land or ships at sea.
His goal is freedom from a tyrant enemy,
The bondage of evil king is on his memory.

From His pen and parchment independence rang,
A Bell of Liberty and a song of freedom sang.
‘Twas not only soldiers with bayonets and brawn,
Who brought forth liberty at early morning dawn.

‘Twas also men like Jefferson and Francis Scott key,
Or Adams, Franklin, Payne and Patrick Henry,
Who fought not in battles brutal and bloody,
But with pen and parchment to help make us free.

Forget not the power of the pen ‘Tis said to be,
Mightier than the sword against grave enemy.
Yet, whether you be militiaman or author true,
From seeds of ink, watered by blood that freedom grew

You see as powerful as pen and parchment be,
We still need the soldier to help keep us free,
Some battles be fought on parchment with the pen,
But others require the blood and bravery of men.

Well I have never seen the play Hamilton nor have I heard any of the music from it as of yet I definitely want to see a production of it sometime soon though but no it was not inspired by Hamilton.

A wonderfully thought out piece. If only people spared more attention to the pen there would be less need for the soldier

Thank you Cassie I appreciate your kind words. And yes I would agree Some battles can be fought without blood shed.
