Soliloquy

by Aegis   Aug 6, 2020

She shrugged her
shoulders as if
to shake a burden
off her chest and
laughed-

unabashed and with passion.

My ears rang with the echoes of her
half sung hymns and I almost
cried at the thought of
them ending.

These verses were so uplifting! The simple image of shrugging her shoulders, and the uneasiness and weight she subsequently got rid of, is beautiful. We need more of that. Being able to release what ties us down. Being able to laugh freely, without any force.

Those last four lines made this poem even more endearing, almost intimate, especially since you brought in your perspective and the almost reverence at her newfound happiness (or progress toward). The joylessness you will feel when she cannot laugh, or is faced with even more painful burdens.

    Lovely, Aegis.

Thank you for your kind words ?? Writing things that stem from happiness and elation usually isn't my strong suit. I've been working on this for months now to not have some sad or bitter ending. I'm happy with the result:)
