Let them feast and drink

by Everlasting   Aug 16, 2020

I thought the fountain of my tears
had gone dry a year ago
but lately the birds that flew
to another yard
have come back to chirp and rejoice
within this fountain of mine

so let them chirp
So let them rejoice
So let them drink and feast
from my tears

I absolutely love the idea of something so lovely and pretty (birds) chirping and thriving in something dark or gloomy (your tears). It's nice to think that something good comes from all the sadness. I'm glad this was nominated<3

    "gone dried"

    - Not sure about the wording of this? Maybe "gone dry" or just "dried"?

Not going to lie, this was kind of unsettling, and I so was not expecting the birds to be rejoicing in your tears... but it makes me think, do they know they're your tears? Do they just see something to settle in?

Also last stanza, I believe "be chirp" should simply be "chirp"? Or you could say "so let them be chirpy"

Such a unique poem that I can't quite get a grasp on. Is this a reflection on how society feeds off of our sadness and times we give up? Or how others seem to benefit or succeed even when we are falling back, and it's just nature, human nature.... or a reflection that life will still go on even when we are caught by depression, by our past, by not knowing how to proceed. Life doesn't wait for us....

Love reading your thoughts on here, Luce.
