The Mummy Maggie

by Megan Chapman   Aug 18, 2020

I have a new visitor in my garden,
A Mummy Maggie.

It would seem that
my weeding has revealed
Perfect magpie nest building material.

She’s very busy.
I see her neat black and white body out of the corner of my eye
As she comes briskly round the tree and into view
I know she can’t see me because of the reflection on my window
But when she looks up
It looks like she’s looking straight at me
Knowingly
Mother to mother.

I love this moment you capture. It's endearing, and a connection between two mothers, though you may communicate in different ways, you both shelter and protect and nurture. Lovely, Megan!

What a lovely ode to motherhood. The imagery of Maggie warms the heart. Milly x
