Begging you

by Ashley Graver   Aug 23, 2020

If begging ever becomes my last option
I’d rather drown in the silence
And the words unspoken
Than to give in and call your name
With tears in my eyes
Because I shall never ask for
The things that are freely given

Wrapping words around emotion so beautifully...talent is in blood indeed...splendid.

The brevity packs a punch in this. What I took from the last two lines, is begging for a kind of love that should be selfless and giving, yet time and time again, you've had to ask to be loved in certain ways that you need it. And though none of are mind-readers, love should listen and be open, and should be given without expectations or malicious intent or any other purpose.

Simple and poignant. I like at the end where the speaker acknowledges "....I shall never ask for things that are freely given." As if they are admitting that what they crave could be found elsewhere - given, from elsewhere - and yet they find themselves asking the one person who doesn't want to give anyway.
