A Speck of September

by cassie hughes   Aug 23, 2020

The glint of gold amongst the green
a berry ripe with autumn’s sun,
On breathy breeze a paper seed
does float and twirl, in eddies spun,
An empty sky where swallows flew,
the scent of fungi on the air,
A single yellow flower blooms
on ivied wall in disrepair,
The seasons tell tale signs unfold
insidiously one by one,
A flash,a speck, the loss of song
September heralds winter’s dawn.
