Don’t

by Guilty By Design   Sep 1, 2020

Oh memory, stop playing games with me
What I know now is simply what has been
Don’t convince me things were different
I might do something silly like just believe
Oh heart, don’t you go on romanticizing
We have scars, what more do you need?
Don’t fall for the butterflies and somersaults
I might do something silly like just believe
Oh brain, don’t you go on contemplating
We’ve been over this a million times
Don’t try to normalize the situation
I might do something silly like just believe.

"We have scars, what more do you need?"

Loved this line in particular. A great poem that really works through the battle between hope and disbelief.

"Don’t convince me things were different"

It's true. Our memories are faulty and that introduces a little room for doubt to creep and change how we 'remember' something completely, and this poem encapsulated that. Well-written piece!
