I Will

by Skyfire   Sep 24, 2020

I will not be afraid
of closing the binding
of an unfinished book
and letting the pages fall,
watching them drift
like soot on the wind
burning, blowing away.
I will not be afraid
of seeing my face
uncovered at last
unshadowed
by the blank story
I wanted to write.
I won't let the words
of what could
have been
be written in stone.
I will not
be afraid
of myself.

"I won't let the words of what could have been be written in stone."

Never has a line resonated so much with me. It isn't enough to "let the past go" as so many advise. I must also not dwell on the present that could have been, had I made different choices or fewer mistakes.

    What an enlightening perspective...

Thank you Wanderer! It is the biggest struggle for me, to let go of how I thought my ending should turn out.
