What They Don't See

by Adelina Darllen   Sep 29, 2020

There's a child with a butcher knife
Running through my head
She's brutally destroying my life
Filling me with dread
Everyone sees my anger
But they don't see my fear
Every day the pain I endure
How I hide every tear
I know that I can destroy you
But that is not my intent
I try to give you a clue
Before our relation is bent
I wish you could understand
What is really going on here
I wish that you'd give a helping hand
Give me nothing to fear
But I know you don't want
To jump into my mess
To be part of my internal hunt
Where the joy is less
So I'll slowly back away
While you do the same
I should've known you'd never stay
Because to you this is all a game

There is so much tangible hurt in this, and also the reality of isolating from others, thinking we are protecting them... or protecting parts of ourselves too. What I especially took from this piece is the focus on anger, how everyone can see anger, but may not understand "why", or the reasons for anger.
