Memories' Return

by Adelina Darllen   Oct 1, 2020

Chest tightening
Heart pounding
Lungs constricting
Vision blurring

Too many people
Too little room
Too many bodies
Too little air

Supposed to be celebrating
Supposed to be happy
Supposed to be cheering
Supposed to be smiling

Tell them to go away
Just need some space
To breathe and relax
To stop threatening tears

Disregard for my rules
Disregard for boundaries
Disregard for truth
Disregard for safety

Memories flood back
A time once repressed
A time nearly forgotten
A time of pain and sorrow

Frozen in place
Stuck in the past
Not moving forward
Only going back

Why don't they see?
Why don't they hear?
Why don't they love?
Why don't they care?
