There was a blue flower on the sidewalk growing out of cracks in the cement And I saw you stoop down and pluck it gaze at it fondly and toss it aside Is that all that love is to you? To rip the beauty out of a thing And leave it helpless and dying? More of a tyrant than a king You reached your hands into my life And tore out all I could give to you But when I was empty of purpose You tossed me away like a dying flower Cement is not kind to flowers And yet a single flower bloomed in the midst of such hardship grew, and spread its petals proudly But in a single, thoughtless motion You ended something courageous You broke something beautiful I understand now why you hurt me You overlook the outcome of your actions You merely do things for your own satisfaction But when playtime is over And you have had your fun I hope you comprehend all that you once discarded Although you, unthinking, ended the splendor of that flower I am not, and never was a flower, I will heal to rise without your aid - Obscure © 2020

A single flower growing in an impossible place should be cherished. I hope these words rub salt in the eyes too blind to recognise what they had. Take care.
