The Hunger.

by Poet on the Piano   Oct 12, 2020

It's back again,
gnawing
and gnashing its teeth,
searching for an entrance
into my place of refuge.
It encourages me;
I feel the familiar
surge
of undisputed energy,
though it's incapable of
sustaining me for long
intervals.

It's back again,
after I kept my guard up
and secured my worth.
It understands why I've
been luring it away,
busying myself with
truths I can touch,
whetting my knives for
defense and pitiful
consolation.

It's back again,
just when I thought I'd
mastered the art of
control.
It unearths what little
resolve I had,
and now, I am simply
its stomach.

The hunger can be a monstrous thing.
Some wonderful use of metaphor throughout this piece, MA, and i did enjoy the repetition which lends an almost tired and resigned feeling to the whole write.

I hope you are keeping well.

Such sadness flows through your poem MA. However penned with so much emotion. Its very difficult to describe feelings, but you have captured this so well.
    Much love M :)
