The Phoenix met The Raven

by Andrew Packard   Oct 23, 2020

One night the earth grew heavy
motionless as stone.
everything collapsed to the center

even the moon spun, becoming dizzy
the end of time seemed hopeless
as the crescent of the moon did splinter

like opposite ends of a dagger
it fell and pierced the polars of the sky

As the two crescents plunged into the earth
two wounds mended and gave birth

One end of the old yellow moon
Shot from the stone, soaring up through
the black night air,

The other crescent beak flared
and also took flight.
Like a Raven and a Phoenix, that tied
the knot of Love in the night.
