Carvings

Carve me a smile my creator
Give me a warm loving grin
Spirals for eyes
Remove my insides
So I’m nice and hollow within

Shape me into monstrous image
In your own likeness be I cast
Give unto me light
Stave off the night
Until this dark evening has passed

Let me share with you a deep secret
Learned in my short pitiful life
From wisdom be starved
Those that are carved
Before those that are left holding the knife
