Autumn shadows, come say hello

by Milo   Nov 9, 2020

I lie here in bed, watching
the time wound of shadows
reflecting from the fading light
on my white walls as they pass on by.
As the autumn day completes itself again,
the dead leaves of these sad trees
swirl in my prison-like mind.

I am forever aghast by this elusive love,
its shadow of strangers outside
on the sidewalk continues
to walk in and out of my life,
I reminisce of those who came before
so close to my heart,
but they end up just a shadow
on my wall too far away to make out
who it is anymore or even come say hello.

Night approaches as the Nightingale begins
to talk about hope within the
swirling leaves in her dreamland
for the thousandth time again,
but she is the only one in the room
still believing in stories of
love in the bitter and lonely end.

Autumn can be a lonely season. It's easy to see the loss of what we gained earlier in the year. Love is that fruit that if we don't preserve, won't last us through winter.

    Take care.
