Shadows - Sonnet

by Walter   Nov 16, 2020

I ask what is love when not with your heart
Do you think you can fool me with your state
All our years shared and not once were apart
And suddenly you're forcing me to wait

I am no fool with the waters you test
You're tempting your toes to feel if its warm
Of course he offers what you think is best
And for you he knows just how to perform

Let's see if you cry and run back to me
When you grasp that he's not your shining knight
When he can't offer what you thought would be
The romance envisioned in your foresight

Although one can forgive but not forget
No longer I'm fooled by your silhouette
