A sad piece Mr D, but you have penned such a sadness, with a romantic feel. My father suffered with Dementia, and this resonates with me on a deep level. I look back and laugh and cry at some of the situations i experienced with him. But being a stubborn bugger, it was never easy at the time.

On a funny note at first glance I thought the acrostic is for Dementors from Harry Potter, and I even started thinking what does it have to do with the content of the poem?! If you think about it is somehow fitting!

Other than that, this is a really sad piece, I’ve only heard of people with dementia from people around, but I never met anyone with it. It really is painful just hearing about it. I can’t help but think about how scared those people diagnosed would be before they start forgetting.

I’m really happy to see this nominated!!

Dementia could be viewed as a wraith like creature taking control of a person, slowly eroding all they once were.
      Thanks for your insightful comment.
