through my binoculars. . .

the avocets are coming
i feel them on the wind
internal tapes are running
of the songs for me they sing

the avocets are coming
i can feel it in my heart
it's a pulsing and a beating
with the show about to start

the avocets are coming
like jewels hung in the air
a dozen birds a flying
to the wetlands over there

the avocets are coming
they grace the flooded land
with long legs blue and cunning
sifting silt along the sands

the avocets are coming
a show of black and white
a contrast that is striking
like those beaks - a pure delight

the avocets did come
with the rolling of waves
i soaked them up with winter sun
'til I see them once again

Wasn't aware of avocets until now, beautiful birds. Loved the repetition, and you certainly did them justice. Glad to see this nominated!

I enjoyed the repetition of avocets. I had to look that words up and found they were birds. Though the poem gives that away lol. I just had to make sure.
Well done with the rhymes. The poem was smooth and a delight to read.
