A beautiful poem created from this prompt. Well done! I didn't realise that gardenias held so much symbolism. At first I imagined red petals depicting blood, but the white ones can mean a secret love too. Perhaps, a secret love not pursued or appreciated at the time. Looking back what seemed unattainable was only a mind not ready to think outside the box.
