Mockingbird Riddles

by Maple Tree   Jan 18, 2021

Moonbeams shadow tears I shed
concealing emotions, during a time
the tree limbs fell.

Encased, shrouded by my ancestors
the only protection I felt was betrayal-
denied access to the river that flowed
in front of my aching body.

Earth beds cushioned a soul
that yearned to taste stars
so that light could shine bright
while the eclipse whispered riddles
in my mind.

As the sea flows, mixed with
shades of crimson, I begin to choke on
sorrow while the mockingbird sings;
peace plays hide and seek with eyes
that wish to close forever.
