Passion and Pride

by CJ Maleney   Jan 21, 2021

I feel somewhere I lost my passion,
That something inside was gone.
I seemed to lose gusto and drive,
But instead just plodded on.

I'm not sure when this happened,
Or even how it came to be.
But somewhere along the line of life,
I simply stopped just feeling free.

No longer lost in nature as I once was,
I stopped paddling upon the sea.
I slipped into monotony and the mundane,
Forgot the fibre that is me.

And yet of late I've found a spark,
Though! at the start of this some may gloat.
I don't care about the word police's view,
Because I'm building my own boat.

You see sometimes words twist and turn,
And they just won't do what you desire.
So I'll write this in the way that many know,
While others burn their's on a fire.

I do find that I procrastinate some what,
So it's time to voice my plans.
I'm not a boat builder or engineer.
Just a pretty stupid man.

I've studied plans and measured lots,
I've cut masses of wood into bits.
It's ready to put together again,
And I'm praying it all fits.

The challenge is both exiting and daunting,
And there is so so much I need to do.
But perhaps in this undertaking,
I may find what does elude.

I'm gonna make her really fast and pretty.
Once complete I hope that I can boast.
But the simple truth of the matter is!

I just hope she bloody floats!

Cheers me dear. It's nice to get my teeth back into something. I've stagnated for way way to long.

Good luck with this mammoth project, Craig. I would love to see her on the water, perhaps, when we are able to, eh? Does she have a name?

      Hey up fella.

Come hell or high water shell be floating at the end of May. An ex army mate of mine and I are paddling from Leeds to liverpool via the canal system in aid of combat stress. It's 127 miles of paddling and 100 lochs to Portage over two days. Gonna be a grueler to complete. The boat is a 16' canoe by the way.

As for the name I did toy with calling it covid 19 for a giggle but realise that would offend some folks. So it's probably gonna be called Archaeopteryx. That was the symbol of our army trade.

Anyways hope you and yours are well. It's been nice to hear from ya.

      Craig
