My Reflector

by Everlasting   Feb 5, 2021

I knew it
that mirror I found
and the one I was so fond of
knows how to lie

It reflects my image, alright
but I look so stupid
semi-distorted

It feels as if all these years, this mirror
has been trying to change
the perception I have of myself

but Oh how cute I thought I looked
while I was reflecting on it

I love this both because I could relate to it and because I could see more than one interpretation within it.
I think we all use love to validate ourselves and measure our sense of worth, basking in the image they hold of us and reflect back to us, which is all good until it turns sour.
I have also had literal 'deceptive' mirrors though, and you think you look like that reflection until you go shopping and the shop mirror reflects a different body, and you can't tell which is telling the truth!
    An excellent write! :-) x
