If a tree falls in a forest ...

by Kitty Cat Lady   Feb 8, 2021

Haunting cries echo in chasms of days
And loneliness smothers at night
'Empty' has morphed to a tangible force
And 'missing you' strangles with might

There is no support and no haven to find
Compassion has long since been spent
The 'on again - off again' cycle  of us
Means no one now hears my lament

Since no one's around to witness my pain
And no one can hear my cries
I'm just the silent forest tree
That cried wolf too many times.

A moving poem where the forest talks of her deep pain yet it can also be related to a person's situation/relationship. This is deep and though I like the whole poem, the second verse caught me...well penned!

It’s sad. But I guess the animals in the forest hears the treee falling and they run scared. Afraid ..

    ...a squirrel yells, "TIMBER!!"

Seriously, yes, I can do that: I hear your pain. "The 'on again - off again' cycle" must induce a 'cry wolf syndrome'? The sad fact is, the pain worsens the longer the cycle continues. The pain will ebb the longer that bike is left alone. Stay strong, it gets easier!
