I walk down the river, where we used to go |
So much is expressed in the title alone; it really encompasses the theme and the sadness of a love not being fluid anymore. The rhyme here flowed beautifully, as usual, and the metaphor was strong throughout. The line about seeing what the water hides, that reminded me of when we search for only the positives, and refuse to see anything troubling. We gloss over what needs to be addressed. Maybe we've trained ourselves to ignore it, because it's better to believe in this projection of a love that is full and brimming. The pollution, the drainage, everything at the bottom, can no longer be covered up. It's bare. It has to be acknowledged. And I think those moments of reflection can be incredibly hard, never quite having enough closure and now just trying to process it all. So sorrowful, especially in the last line. |
