If The Shoe Fits

by Walter   Mar 17, 2021

I have some shoes I always wear
They've been with me everywhere
And on my feet they fit so well
But it is time to say farewell

The shoes are now no longer new
And also have a hole or two
I know they are looking worn
Without them though I'm sure to mourn

Because we've been everywhere
The shoes and I, we make a pair
I wore them on all my trips
On trains and cars and planes and ships

I wore them when I would hike
On mountain tops by foot and bike
They always had a lot of grip
And with them I would never slip

I wore them on our first date
Back then they shined and still looked great
And felt inspired to take a chance
To lead you out for our first dance

But now they have become replaced
By leather shoes which I can't face
They look like they won't fit my sole
Nor have the grip which I control

Yes, I know these shoes now shine
But no longer feel like mine
My toes are cramped with sore heels
I'm sorry but they've lost appeal

And I will keep my favourite shoes
As never once would they bruise
My new shoes forced not broken in
But just my patience, wearing thin

The hygiene in holy, old shoes . . . questionable. The hatred of getting new shoes . . . Also questionable. Lol
But in all seriousness, this made me laugh. Fun write :)

Nothing a little shoe deodorizer wouldn't fix . . . compared to sore heels, I think I know what I would pick, lol.
Thanks for your comment Keira :)
