Same dog, different lamp-post

by Michael   Mar 17, 2021

tears roll along
the sills of my eyelids;
squeezed from the
shattered panes of my eyes
fractures of another
sleepless night

it's not that I don’t want to sleep,
but its a long story

I do feel sorry for my dreams
because when they become nightmares
I am not there to wake out of them

but through the night
other matters take its toll

my ears are plagued
with a recurring theme;
a perpetual high-pitched voice
(although speechless)
hurtles through, like the sound
of air pressure

but, what I can't figure,
if it's coming in
or going out,
driving a wedge between
myself and silence

hissing
a monotonous monotone
of misery

I blink my eyes
in a crunching fashion
to clear the debris of fatigue,
that teases my vision;
playing tricks with my mind

dabbing the air with
‘now you see me, now you don’t’

meddling in my affairs

I load the barrel of my caffetiere;
like a canon full of gunpowder
one more time

like a detonator;
I press down on the plunger,
and caffeine explodes in a well
of hot water, igniting a fusion of
a temporary arrangement

I have a large
double for the road,
for I know soon,
the sun will begin
knocking the day into shape

and the blackbirds
will crack on with dawn

regardless

    Glad to see this on the front page.
    I'm so sorry it's so sorrowful but excellent all the same.. I saw the title and thought it was going to raise a smile, how wrong I was.
