A Declaration In Bloom ( Shadow English Sonnet )

by Everlasting   Mar 23, 2021

Today this rose will bloom for you today
So watch attentively and please do so
May days like this will never come till May
Though Fall may help it flourish once more though
It is uncertain at this point if it
(By “it” I mean this rose that blossoms by)
Befits a goddess or if it befits
Outcry so vigorous of an outcry
Thus come and watch this rose and tell me thus
If you could see this flower just as if
Us were to be together only us
Sniff quickly sniff this scent just quickly sniff
I call this love a love for you from I
I love you dear, this rose you see is I

Well done, Lucero. Two sonnets on the front page may not be a sight seen round these parts again for many a long year.
I will have to try one of thse one day; I have never yet had the guts!

A scarlet rose’s scent may be heavenly, but a heaven sent rose is Everlasting. Thank you for sharing.

It's a coincidence, because I was set a much detested English Sonnet to write for school work yesterday - I think I completely ruined all iambic pentameter, lol
I like this form, it reminds me of one I read by W.B.Yates. interesting write:)

Thanks, haha well, for starters don’t worry much about the meter. Worry about the rhyme. Once you are good with working with rhymes, then pay attention to the meter and ignore the rhyme and the meaning of a poem for a moment, just focus on the meter. Once you get the meter right, then focus on everything if possible. So, you may end up writing a couple of sonnets till you get there or you might just need to write some till you master it. I’m still writing a couple till I get there, and I bet as the years come, I’ll still be writing more till I get there;)

      All the best!
